Help restore historic Root Cemetery and Nature Preserve! Volunteers should dress for the weather and wear long pants and sturdy shoes. Water, tools, work gloves, and good conversation provided. Youth groups welcome.

This support group, led by a volunteer trained with the Alzheimer’s Association, offers a safe, confidential, supportive environment and a chance for caregivers to develop informal mutual support and social relationships. Participants also learn about dementia and build problem-solving methods and skills. 

This group meets monthly on 3rd Tuesdays, and is open to caregivers and others who have loved ones with dementia.

     Prepare for a magical evening as Illinois Libraries Present welcomes actress Marissa Bode. Bode made her feature film debut as Nessarose in Academy Award-winning blockbuster, Wicked.
     Join us to explore Bode’s early inspirations and performances leading up to her portrayal of Nessarose. As the highly anticipated sequel, Wicked: For Good, approaches, we’ll reflect on what makes the story so meaningful to Bode and audiences around the world. Bode will also share personal stories and insights from her time on stage, the challenges and rewards of being part of an iconic production, and what the future holds for her career.
     Amanda Finn will join Bode in conversation. Finn is a queer theater, lifestyle, and travel journalist based in Chicago. Their work has appeared in the Chicago Reader, American Theatre Magazine, Yahoo, Huffington Post, and more.
American Sign Language (ASL) interpretation and Closed Captioning are provided.

Samhein (pronounced Sow-wehn) is the ancient Gaelic name for a time between times…a time at the end of Harvest when the veil between the world of men and the otherworld of spirits becomes thin and those sprits walk the earth. From ancient times until today, we have celebrated this mysterious and beautiful time of year. We call it Halloween or All Hallows Eve…and you can join award-winning singer/songwriter Barry Cloyd in a step back to ancient Celtic times to revisit and bring to life the tales and songs of this haunting October celebration. It’s a spooky good time.
